Petroleum and Alternative Fuels

  1. Formulate and review national petroleum sector policies, strategies, and legislation;
  2. Oversee the implementation of the Petroleum regulatory framework;
  3. Advise on fuel supply security, pricing, subsidies, and taxation regimes;
  4. Coordinate the implementation of bilateral and multilateral petroleum programmes;
  5. Monitor and coordinate national fuel supply chains to ensure availability and distribution of petroleum products across the country;
  6. Build up and manage strategic fuel reserves and storage facilities for national emergencies and supply disruptions;
  7. Facilitate the licensing of petroleum products in collaboration with industry stakeholders and relevant authorities;
  8. Support planning and development of petroleum infrastructure such as pipelines, depots, service stations, and refineries;
  9. Monitor compliance with safety, environmental, and operational standards within the petroleum sector;
  10. Promote the safe and efficient use of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) as a clean energy alternative;
  11. Support the development of regulations and programs for the adoption of biodiesel, ethanol, and other alternative fuels;
  12. Collect, analyse, and maintain up-to-date data on petroleum imports, consumption, pricing, and storage levels to provide market intelligence, forecasts, and technical reports to support planning and decision-making;
  13. Promote Zimbabwe as a hub for fuel trade/distribution in the region;
  14. Track trends in regional and global petroleum markets to advice on strategic positioning;
  15. Coordinate fuel-related disaster risk management and emergency response planning.
